    • Published 1875.

    • Orphaned girl (Rose) is taken in by an uncle and, through his care and that of her many aunts and eight cousins, she comes to flourish.

  • Rose in Bloom (sequel of Eight Cousins)

    • Published 1876.

    • Follows Rose as she comes of age and discovers what is important to her and who she wants to be.

    • Warning: though some characters are against cousins marrying cousins, due to the time the book was written there is a romance between cousins.

  • Kate’s Choice

    • A short story.

    • A girl suddenly becomes an orphan and inherits a great deal of wealth in the process. When given a choice between what relations she will live with, will she choose comfort or making a difference?

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

  • The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

    • First of the stories published 1892.

    • Follows an eccentric private detective (Sherlock Holmes) and his friend (Dr. John Watson) as they solve mysteries which even Scotland Yard cannot solve.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

  • Poetry and Prose (too many works to mention)

    • Longfellow was an amazing American poet who lived during the 1800’s. His poems often focused on nature, but he did write about people, places, and historical events. Paul Revere’s Ride is one of his most famous works, though shorter works such as The Arrow and the Song or The Secret of the Sea are certainly worth reading.
